What is a Remote Online Notarization?

With remote online notarization (RON), a signer personally appears before the Notary at the time of the notarization using audio-visual technology over the internet instead of being physically present in the same room. Remote online notarization is also called webcam, remote, or virtual notarization.

And thanks to Interstate Recognition, which gives legal authority to notarial acts completed in one state for use in any other, an adequately met RON performed by a notary from a state with effective RON laws is valid and acceptable in a different state when completed according to the laws of that Notary’s commissioning state.

How does it work?

1. Upload or scan your document

Notary911 utilizes the remote online notary platform proof.com. To ensure successful notarization, kindly upload the complete document in PDF or DOCX format, not just the signature page. You may scan and upload the document using your mobile phone if you need to save the file.

2. Create a Proof account

Your documents and transaction details will be securely stored in your account, where you can initiate future notarizations and eSigns.

3. Verify your connection

To conduct a notary meeting, it is necessary to have a device equipped with a camera and Wi-Fi connectivity. It is essential to have a solid technical setup to ensure that the meeting goes smoothly and without any interruptions.

4. Verify your identity

Proof employs identification verification technology to guarantee a secure transaction. Please answer a few questions about your background and take a photo of your ID, and we'll be sure to authenticate your identity within seconds. It's worth noting that in New York State, the law also requires biometric identity proofing to be performed. Proof employs identification verification technology to guarantee a secure transaction.
